Under the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) 5, the target is to reduce Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) by three quarters between 1990 & 2015. The target for MMR for Dadra & Nagar Haveli is estimated to be 109 per 1,00,000 live under National Rural Health Mission (NHM), several initiatives are under implementation to achieve the goal for reduction in Maternal Mortality. These interventions are as follows:
Objectives of the Maternal Health Initiatives is as follows :
This includes quality antenatal care including prevention and treatment of anemia, institutional / safe delivery services and post natal care. To provide essential obstetric care services GoI is operationalizing the PHCs for 24 X 7 services and also training the SNs/LHVs/ANMs in Skilled Attendance at Birth.
Quality ANC includes minimum of at least 4 ANCs including early registration and 1st ANC in first trimester along with physical and abdominal examinations, Hb estimation and urine investigation , 2 doses of T.T Immunization and consumption of IFA tablets (6 months during ANC & 6 months during PNC).

Schemes Under Maternal Health Programme are:
1. Janani Shishu Suraksha Karyakram(JSSK)
Under this scheme the beneficiaries will be the pregnant mother who is accessing the Public Health institutions and the sick infants till the child attain one year of age.

2. Free Caesarian Section
3. Free drugs and consumables
4. Free diagnostics ( blood test, urine test and Ultrasonography)
5. Free provision of blood
6. Free transport from home to health institutions, between health institutions in case of referrals and also drop back
7. Free diet during stay in hospital for 3 days in normal delivery and up to 7 days in case of Caesarian section
8. Exemption from all kinds of user charges
9. Benefits for sick infants till the child attain one year of age

2. Janani Suraksha Yojana(JSY)
This scheme would help all the mothers who belong to SC, ST and BPL mothers regardless to parity with Rs 600/- for Urban & Rs 700/- for Rural on institutional delivery. For home delivery the beneficiaries would receive Rs 500/- The beneficiary has to produce the following documents for claiming the benefits
1. Ration card
2. Election card
3. ID proof from sarpanch
4. Mamta card/Yellow card
5. Birth certificate of the baby
6. Delivery certificate from Government Institution
7. Photocopy of Bank pass book
8. Aadhar Card
Notes:All these documents are to be submitted as true copy in 2 sets.
After complete submission of the required documents by the beneficiaries the compiled set of forms are submitted to the Director of Health & Medical Services in a daily basis where further payment of beneficiaries are being processed.

3. Matru Samruddhi Yojana(MSY)
Matru Samruddhi Yojana is a Scheme which will motivate all segment of the society for early registration of pregnancy at health institutions, regular Antenatal checkups, institutional deliveries and post natal checkups. The scheme will reduce the maternal mortality rate, infant mortality rate in the community. In this scheme Cash assistance of Rs. 5000 is given to mother delivered at Govt. Hospitals
Objectives:
1. Discourage early marriage
2. Promotion for registration of marriage
3. Promote institutional deliveries
4. Reduction in MMR and IMR
5. Reduction in Net Reproduction Rate
Eligibility
1. Resident of UT of Dadra and Nagar Haveli.
2. Marriage registration certificate
3. Institutional delivery certificate (government institution of Dadra and Nagar Haveli only)
4. Only up to first 2 live births.
Documents required
1. Residence certificate of either one of the parents from mamalatdar, Dadra & Nagar Haveli.
2. Certificate of delivery from Government Hosp/PHC/CHC/ DISP/ SC
3. Attested copy of birth certificate of mother/LC/ /marriage certi/ 10TH PASSING CERTI.
4. Certificate of ANM for 2 child certificate from concerned area
5. 2 passport photos.
