‘Quality’ is the core and most important aspect of services being rendered at any Health Facility.

Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India is committed to support and facilitate a Quality Assurance Programme, which meets needs of Public Health System in the country and is sustainable.

Main focus of Quality Assurance Programme would be enhancing satisfaction level among users of the Government Health Facilities and reposing trust in the Public Health System. National Health Mission has launched a new programme “National Quality Assurance Standards” to improve the cleanliness, sanitation, infection control practice, biomedical waste management and clinical protocols of the health facility level to have uniform clinical practice across the country.

Major components of Quality Assurance (QA) in Public Health:

a. Setting up Standards and Measurable elements.
b. Assessment of health facilities against the set standards.
c. Analyzing the problems.
d. Preparing and implementing action plan

As per the guidelines from Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of India, State Quality Assurance Committee (SQAC) under the chairmanship of Development Commissioner/Secretary, Health and State Quality Assurance Unit (SQAU) has been constituted under Director, Medical and Health Services on 21st February 2015 to oversee the Quality Assurance activities across the Union Territory in relation to the national guidelines to ensure regular and accurate reporting of various indicators.
